In The Eye Of The Beholder
When I was first trying to write this I had the most massive mind blank. To have my work all across the internet is a lot of pressure for an artist. There are so many judging critics out there and you can't help but want to please everyone. I’ve learnt over the years that it's not possible to please everyone, that there’s always going to be someone out there who doesn't like the work your making and a lot of the time that is what can bring a person down, especially an artist. From art, I’ve also learnt that it’s all about emotion, and passion. If you're not having fun and don’t have an interest in the art you're making then it's never going to turn out as good as you would’ve wanted.
When asked about my thoughts on art I couldn’t put together a good way to explain how it made me feel, instead, I realized that what better way to talk about art than through a poem;
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it’s the same with art. It flows through my veins but doesn’t stop at my heart. Art is everything to me, it is my outlook on life. To see things as a masterpiece rather than trash is a gift if you might.
The way the petals fall off flowers, the way the waves crash on the shore, how a person styles their hair every morning to graffiti on a wall.
Art is all around us, from the most complex weaving of leaves to drawing strands of hair, bit by bit. It’s in everything you do, you just have to have the imagination to see it.
The ‘earth’ without ‘art’ is just ‘eh’. Cliché I know, but that doesn’t make it any less true. Art gives us the creativity and a passion to turn old things back to new.
It is more than just a hobby, it's what brings a smile to my face. When I’m sad and gloomy it's what I’ll call my happy place. At my desk, pen in hand, pen to paper, colour to blank. Outlined with a sharpie, watercoloured in blue, red biro underlined with cartoons on my shoes.
Art is in the eye of the beholder. It is the placing of a chair in a white room. It is the painting of a bird feeding it's children in a field of bright red mushrooms. It is the pointy winged eyeliner on a model from LA and a photograph of a rainbow amongst the skies of grey.
Art is can be messy and art can be clean, art is whatever you see it to be. It's more than just a hobby, more than just a pencil on paper. It is a passion.
