2020 People’s Choice Winner announced
Billy Wilson – ‘Mungyo’
The winner of this year’s People’s Choice is Billy Wilson for ‘Mungyo’, a work in oil pastel on kraft paper. The work was very favourably commented on by the art loving public during the exhibition.
Billy says “Mungyo represents another experiment in my ongoing investigation of where art and architecture meet. An 11th century carved stone relief by Pisano has become the starting point for a large scale surface of dense oil pastel that achieves a material weight in the gallery space.”
This is the fourth year in a row that Billy has been selected as a Parkin Drawing Prize finalist.
Congratulations to the 2020 winner of the Parkin Drawing Prize

Parking Drawing Prize 2020 continues
This year’s Parkin Drawing Prize has remained open despite the COVID 19 lock down. There has been no human contact during the entry or selection of finalists phases. The competition will proceed in line with our original timeline. Selection of the winner and merit recipients will be able to proceed. This is irrespective of whether there are restrictions on the Academy Galleries being able to show an exhibition to the public. We regularly reviewed the situation based on Government and Ministry of Health advice. No scenario has affected the entries, the close off date, or the selection of finalists and winner. We encourage you to come and see the exhibition during August 2020.
Stay safe and well.
